<p>Hannah Senesh, a poet and Hungarian native, was one of 37 Jewish parachutists sent by the British Army from Mandate Palestine to try to save Hungarian Jews who were about to be deported to Auschwitz. She was captured almost immediately, tortured by the Gestapo and shot.</p>
